Released: 2017 Growth Numbers

The Economic Alliance tracks growth in the Greater Chicago metro of Kankakee County, Illinois, releasing the numbers annually to partners, investment prospects, the media and other community stakeholders. From 2014-2017, the community saw $1.5 billion in major capital investment. 


For calendar year 2017, the Alliance released the following data:

 

Major Capital Projects = 31
Total Square Footage = 733,000
Total Capital Investment = $284,561,000
New Jobs Created = 550


Kankakee County in 2017 also retained the ranking of Illinois’ #1 Small Metro for Growth, as calculated by the Milken Institute in its Best-Performing Cities Index. The index is a measure of job, wage/salary and technology growth. The community acheived the top rank in 2013, 2014 and 2016 as well.

Forbes Magazine also announced in 2017 that Kankakee County is the #4 small metro nationwide for cost of doing business.
