Transportation and Infrastructure

For any industry, access to regional and global markets is a critical piece of the success equation. Kankakee County's comprehensive system of highways and railroads, along with the Chicago Southland's largest regional airport, meet today's business needs.

Greater Kankakee Airport

Located 60 miles south of Downtown Chicago and 70 miles north of Champaign along Illinois Interstate 57 at Exit 308, Greater Kankakee Airport is well positioned operating just outside of Chicago airspace. The general aviation facility offers comprehensive FBO and pilot services, as well as the Chicago Southland’s longest runway outside of Midway International, at 5,981 feet. The airport is equipped with an instrumental landing system and more than 120 private hangers. Annual operations are approximately 50,000 (25,000 arrivals and 25,000 departures), generating an annual economic impact of more than $22 million.

Kankakee County is in close proximity to Midway Airport, which is drivable in 50 minutes and accessible by River Valley Metro shuttle service, and O'Hare International Airport, drivable in 60 minutes.

Highways

Kankakee County's proximity to national interstates is ideal for any industrial company and provides excellent accessibility to all major markets in the Midwest and beyond. Our community has direct access to I-57 and is about 20 minutes driving time to I-80.

Railways

Kankakee County is well served by three Class I railroads - Canadian National, Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern. Rail representatives work coorperatively with the Economic Alliance to site industry in Kankakee County.
